What is the 1st step to becoming Muslim?

It’s very simple: All you must do is Bear Witness [with Sincerity & Certainty] that there is One God [Allah] & that Muhammad is his Last Prophet [Messenger].

Say, “La elah ha ill la lah, Muhammadun wa rasoollulah”

 This means: “There is no God [Lord] or object worthy of Praise and Worship except Allah; [and that] Muhammad is his last Messenger.”
