Who Is Allah?
Allah (Arabic: الله, Allāh, IPA: [ʔalˤːɑːh] (
listen)) is the standard Arabic word for God.[1] While the term is best known in the West for its use by Muslims as a reference to God, it is used by Arabic-speakers of all Abrahamic faiths, including Christians and Jews, in reference to "God".[1][2][3] The term was also used by pagan Meccans as a reference to the creator-god, possibly the supreme deity in pre-Islamic Arabia.[4] *Wikipedia.org
It is a known fact that every language has one or more terms that are used in reference to God and sometimes to lesser deities. This is not the case with Allah. Allah is the personal name of the One true God. Nothing else can be called Allah. The term has no plural or gender.
In the Holy Qur'an Allah describes himself and says,
"Say, He is Allah [God], One and Only! Allah, the Eternal-Absolute, He does not produce offspring nor was he produced. And there is NOTHING LIKE HIM."
-The Holy Qur'an Chapter 112
Allah goes on and describes himself as,
"Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is in between them, so worship [praise] Him (Alone) and be constant and patient in His worship [praise]. Do you know of any who is similar to Him?" -The Holy Qur'an Chapter 19
"He is the First and the Last, the Evident and the Immanent: and He has full knowledge of all things." -The Holy Qur'an Chapter 57
"He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in Six Days (and no fatigue over came him), and is moreover firmly established above the Throne (of Authority). He knows what enters within the earth and what comes forth out of it, what comes down from heaven and what mounts up to it. And He is with you where ever you are. And Allah sees well all that you do." -The Holy Qur'an Chapter 57
"To Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth: and all affairs are referred back to Allah." -The Holy Qur'an Chapter 57
"He merges Night into Day, and He merges Day into Night; and He has full knowledge of the secrets of (all) hearts." -The Holy Qur'an Chapter 57
"He created the heavens without any pillars that you can see; He set on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with you; and He scattered through it creatures of all kinds. We send down rain from the sky, and produce on the earth every kind of noble plant, in pairs." -The Holy Qur'an Chapter 31
"He is Allah, besides Whom there is no god; the King, the Holy, the Giver of peace, the Granter of security, Guardian over all, the Mighty, the Supreme, the Possessor of every greatness Glory be to Allah from what they set up (with Him)." -The Holy Qur'an Chapter 59
"He is Allah the Creator, the Maker, the Fashioner; His are the most excellent names; whatever is in the heavens and the earth declares His glory; and He is the Mighty, the Wise."
-The Holy Qur'an Chapter 59
Allah! There is no god but He,-the Ever-Living, the Self-Existing, Eternal. No slumber can seize Him nor can sleep. To him belongs everything in the heavens and on earth. Who is there can intercede in His presence except by his permission? He knows what will happen to his creatures in this life and the next. And they cannot comprehend anything of His knowledge except as He wills. His Kursi [foot stool] extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them for He is the Most High, the Supreme (in glory).
-The Holy Qur'an Chapter 2
Why do Muslims call God, 'Allah'?
IS ALLAH' MORE APPROPRIATE THAN GOD?
Answer :
1. A person can misinterpret the English word 'God':
Muslims prefer calling Allah as Allah, instead of the English
word 'God'. The Arabic word 'Allah' is pure and unique, unlike the
English word 'God' which can be misinterpreted to mean many other things.
2. God + s = Gods:
If you add the alphabet 'S' to 'God', it becomes 'Gods', that is
plural of God. Allah is One and Singular. There is no plural of Allah.
3. God + dess = Goddess:
If you add 'dess' to 'God' it becomes 'Goddess' that is a female God.
There is nothing like male 'Allah' or female 'Allah'. Allah has no
gender.
4. God + Father = Godfather:
If you add the word 'father' to 'God', it becomes 'Godfather'. 'He is
my Godfather' i.e. he is my guardian. There is nothing like 'Allah
Abba' or 'Allah father' in Islaam.
5. God + Mother = Godmother:
If you add the word 'mother' to 'God' it becomes 'Godmother'. There is
nothing like 'Allah Ammi' or 'Allah mother' in Islaam.
6. Tin + God = Tingod:
If you put 'tin' before 'God' it becomes 'Tin-God' i.e. a fake God.
There is nothing like 'tin Allah' or 'fake Allah' in Islaam.
7. Allah is a Unique Word:
'Allah' is a unique word, with which can neither conjure up a mental
picture, nor can it be misinterpreted. 'Allah' is the name
mentioned for the One Unique and True God, in the Qur'an. Therefore,
Muslims prefer calling God, 'Allah'.
*The word "Allah" is the perfect description of the "One God"!
Is "Allah" only for Islam and Muslims?
[No! It is for All Three Abrahamic Faiths.]
"Allah" is the same word used by Christian Arabs and Jewish Arabs in their Bible, centuries before Islam came.
On page one [1] of Genesis in the Old Testament, we find the word "Allah" seventeen [17] times.
Every hotel and motel has a Bible. Next time you see one look in the introduction, you will find samples of the different languages they have translated. For Arabic they have translated the verse in the New Testament in Arabic from the famous verse in the Gospel John 3:16 -
"For God so loved the world . . . "
- and the word the translators used in Arabic for "God" is the very same word used by Muslims around the planet, "Allah."
